With the
blessings of His Holiness Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamiji, my mother Smt.
Rajalakshmi Ammal initiated the tradition of celebrating the birth star of His
Holiness every month. Since 1990 to this day, every month on Mrigaseersha day,
an imperial procession is led through the main streets of Salem. A stately
elephant leads the procession followed by musicians playing the oboe and a
cohort of young devotees carrying the regal white parasol, flags and banners.
This pageant is followed by a grandly adorned chariot hoisting the portrait of
Sadhguru decorated with flowers and garlands. Pious devotees surround the
chariot on all sides reciting the supreme mantra “Sri Guro Paahimaam”. The
arrangements for the procession are done as a team by the Mrigaseersha
Committee with each member entrusted with one responsibility. Of the devotees,
Mr. Chettiar was responsible for flower décor while Mr. Dhurairaj was
responsible for organizing the elephant and the oboists.
At the time
of this event, the only elephant available to lead the processions was the one
from Sri Sugavaneswara temple in Salem. One Mrigaseersha day, a few hours
before the procession, the commissioner of Sri Sugavaneswara temple called to
inform us that the temple elephant has injured its leg and was not able to
walk. When Mr. Dhurairaj informed me that the elephant would not lead the
procession, I was disheartened. My heart appealed to His Holiness “Oh Guru!
What is a procession without an elephant leading it? Please show us a way out
of this predicament.”
Since there
were only a few hours left for the procession, I focused my attention on other
pending issues. Meanwhile, Mr. Dhurairaj was taking a nap after lunch in his
rice mill. Suddenly he was aroused by the resounding voice of the Jagadguru
declaring “Dhurairaj! The elephant has arrived.” Startled, Mr. Dhurairaj ran
out to the doors. He was awestruck to see a huge elephant clatter the gate of
his rice mill. The perplexed mahout had a strange tale to relate. He said, “We
were on our way to Kodumudi (another town near Salem) to participate in a function.
But my elephant seems to be mysteriously drawn to your door. He simply won’t
move forward. We have been struggling in vain for the last half an hour, to get
him to proceed.”
Mr.
Dhurairaj realized that this was solely due to the grace of His Holiness and
informed us over the phone. We spoke to the mahout and used the elephant for
the procession with all grandeur. My heart swells with gratitude and my eyes
fill with tears each time I recount this miracle. Both the grace of my Guru
which summoned the elephant and His mercy that announced its arrival are beyond
compare.

శ్రీ శ్రీ భారతి తీర్థ మహాస్వామి ఆశీర్వాదంతో, నా తల్లి శ్రీమతి
రాజలక్ష్మి అమ్మ ప్రతి నెల గురువుల
యొక్క జన్మ నక్షత్రాన్ని జరుపుకునే సంప్రదాయాన్ని ప్రారంభించారు. 1990 నుండి ఈ రోజు వరకు, ప్రతి నెల మృగశిర నక్షత్రము రోజున, సేలం ప్రధాన వీధుల గుండా ఒక ఉత్సవం పెద్ద ఎత్తున
జరుగుతుంది. ఓ పట్టపు ఏనుగు ఊరేగింపుకు

దేవుళ్ళ యొక్క చిత్రపటాన్ని అద్భుతంగా అలంకరించిన రథం లో వుంచి “శ్రీ గురో
పాహిమాం” అనే మూల మంత్రాన్ని పఠిస్తూ భక్తులు నలు వైపుల నుంచి రథాన్ని చుట్టుముట్టి, భక్తితో లాగుతారు.
ఈ ఊరేగింపు
ఏర్పాట్లు “మృగశీర్ష కమిటీ” అను ఒక బృందం యొక్క పర్యవేక్షణ లో ప్రతి సభ్యునికి ఒక బాధ్యతను అప్పగిస్తారు.
భక్తులలో శ్రీ చెట్టియార్ గారు పూల అలంకరణకు బాధ్యత వహించగా, శ్రీ దోరైరాజ్ గారు ఏనుగు మరియు ఒబోయిస్టులను నిర్వహించడానికి
బాధ్యత వహించారు. ఈ సందర్భములో, ఊరేగింపుకు ముందు ప్రధాన అలంకారంగా
నడిపించడానికి అందుబాటులో ఉన్న ఒకే ఒక
ఏనుగు సేలం లోని శ్రీ సుగవనేశ్వర ఆలయం లో
కలదు. మృగశీర్ష రోజు, ఊరేగింపుకు కొన్ని గంటల ముందు, శ్రీ సుగవనేశ్వర ఆలయ కమిషనర్, ఆలయ ఏనుగు కాలుకి గాయమైందని, నడవలేకపోతున్నదని మాకు తెలియజేసినారు. ఏనుగు
ఊరేగింపులో పాల్గొనబోదని శ్రీ దోరైరాజ్ గారు నాకు సమాచారం ఇచ్చినప్పుడు, నేను ఎంతో నిరుత్సాహపడ్డాను. మనసులోనే నేను
శ్రీ గురు చరణులను ప్రార్ధించినాను... “ఓ గురు దేవా! ఏనుగు లేకుండా నడిచే
ఊరేగింపు అందగించదు, దయచేసి ఈ దుస్థితి నుండి బయటపడటానికి మాకు ఒక
మార్గం చూపించండి”...అని.
ఊరేగింపుకు కొన్ని
గంటలు మాత్రమే మిగిలి ఉన్నందున, ఇతర సమస్యలపై నా దృష్టిని కేంద్రీకరించాను.
ఇంతలో శ్రీ దోరైరాజ్ గారు తన రైస్ మిల్లులో భోజనం చేసి ఓ కునుకు తీశారు.
అకస్మాత్తుగా జగద్గురు యొక్క పిలుపు
“దోరైరాజ్, ఏనుగు వచ్చింది లే ”....అన్న మాటతో వులిక్కిపడి నిద్ర లేచి ప్రవేశ ద్వారం (గేటు) వైపు పరుగెత్తినాడు. తన వడ్ల మిల్లు
యొక్క గేటును ఒక భారీ ఏనుగు లాగడం చూసి అతను ఆశ్చర్యపోయాడు. కలవరపడిన మావటి మాట్లాడుతూ, “మేము ఒక కార్యక్రమంలో పాల్గొనడానికి కొడుముడి
(సేలం సమీపంలోని మరొక పట్టణం) వెళ్తున్నాము. కానీ నా ఏనుగు వున్నట్లుండి ఇక్కడ ఆగి
మీ తలుపును ఊపుతున్నది, ఎంత ప్రయత్నించినా ముందుకు సాగటం లేదు” అని.
”శ్రీ దోరైరాజ్ గారు ఇది కేవలం గురు దేవుల
దయ వల్లనే అని గ్రహించి ఫోన్ ద్వారా మాకు సమాచారం ఇచ్చారు. మేము మావటి వాడితో
మాట్లాడి ఆ ఏనుగును ఊరేగింపు కోసం వాడుకున్నాము. నా హృదయం కృతజ్ఞతతో కరిగిపోయినది.
ఈ అద్భుతాన్ని వివరిస్తున్న ప్రతిసారీ నా కళ్ళు కన్నీళ్లతో నిండిపోతాయి.
ఏనుగును పిలిపించిన గురువుల దయ మరియు దాని రాకను ప్రకటించిన వారి కరుణ రెండూ
సరి పోల్చలేనివి.
